Zipp Service Course CX bar tape is padded tape built for cyclocross and gravel-style riding where you want extra cushion and a grip pattern that stays secure when it’s wet or muddy.

It uses a knurled / diamond-style surface for traction and a small gel center strip to take the edge off vibration without turning the bars into a pillow.

Key Functional Details

  • CX / gravel-focused padded bar tape with knurled (diamond / cross-hatch) grip texture
  • Gel center strip for added vibration damping
  • Adhesive backing to help keep the wrap anchored during installation
  • Two rolls (enough for one drop handlebar)
  • Includes finishing tape and Zipp bar-end plugs
  • Embossed “Service Course” branding

Compatibility & Technical Notes

  • Fits standard road / gravel drop handlebars
  • Works with modern road and gravel lever bodies (mechanical or electronic)
  • Designed for riders who want grip in wet/muddy conditions (CX/gravel use)
  • NOT the smooth “Road” texture version of Service Course tape
  • If you want maximum padding for long endurance road rides, consider thicker endurance-style tapes instead

Service / Ownership Context

This tape is a good balance of cushion and control for rough surfaces. Expect the tops near the hoods and the outside edge of the drops to show wear first. Rewrap when the texture is worn smooth or the tape starts to tear at high-contact points.

Fit & Use Signals

  • Good Fit: Cyclocross, gravel, mixed-surface road, wet-weather riders, riders who want extra grip and moderate padding.
  • Not A Fit: Riders who specifically want smooth road tape feel, or riders chasing ultra-thick “max cushion” bar tape.
This is the CX texture tape — the whole point is grip when it’s wet/muddy and a bit more padding. Common mistake: customers buy “Service Course” and don’t realize there’s Road (smooth) and CX (knurled) versions. If they want smooth road feel, this isn’t it. Wrap tip: don’t crank it insanely tight or you flatten the gel strip and lose the benefit. Keep overlap consistent. Adhesive backing helps, but still clean the bars first. If bars are dusty/oily the tape will creep. Wear shows first on the hoods and the outside drop where palms sit. Riders love: secure grip in rain, doesn’t feel slick, good control on rough gravel. Complaints: road-only riders sometimes think it feels too “grippy” or not as clean/smooth. Also people expecting super thick padding. Buying advice: CX texture for gravel/CX/wet, Road texture for smooth road feel. If you want huge padding, choose a thicker endurance tape.
