The Wolf Tooth Tanpan 11-Speed adapter allows Shimano drop-bar shifters to properly operate compatible Shimano mountain rear derailleurs. It corrects the cable-pull mismatch that normally prevents these systems from working together.
This is commonly used on gravel, adventure, cyclocross, and commuter bikes where riders want the wider gear range and chain control of a mountain derailleur while keeping drop-bar controls—often as part of a 1x drivetrain conversion.

• If rear derailleur housing is routed internally through the chainstay and exits near or past the rear axle, an inline ferrule is required
• Not intended for 10-speed or 12-speed systems
Service / Ownership Context
This adapter is a mechanical solution that expands compatibility, but it does not eliminate setup sensitivity. Proper derailleur capacity, hanger alignment, cable routing, and cassette selection all play a role in final shifting quality. Larger cassettes place more demand on adjustment accuracy and component choice.
