The SRAM NX Eagle Boost groupset is a complete 12-speed mechanical drivetrain built for modern Boost-spaced mountain bikes using standard HG freehub bodies. It delivers Eagle’s wide gear range and simple cable-actuated shifting in a package that’s durable, serviceable, and compatible with many existing wheelsets.

This kit is ideal for riders upgrading from 10- or 11-speed drivetrains or replacing worn components while keeping HG wheels in service.

Key Functional Details

  • 12-speed Eagle drivetrain with wide 11–50T cassette range
  • DUB crankset, 170mm arms with direct-mount 32T X-SYNC chainring

  • NX Eagle rear derailleur
  • NX Eagle trigger shifter with clamp

Compatibility & Technical Notes

  • Speed: 12
  • Rear spacing: Boost 148mm
  • Chainline: 52mm
  • Crank length: 170mm
  • Chainring: 32T direct mount
  • Freehub requirement: Shimano HG (8–11 speed style)
  • Cassette range: 11–50T
  • Bottom bracket: NOT included (requires SRAM DUB BB matched to your frame)
  • Mechanical shifting only (not electronic)
  • Not compatible with non-Boost frames
  • Not compatible with XD/XDR or Microspline freehubs

Service / Ownership Context

This groupset installs like any modern 1x drivetrain and benefits from proper derailleur setup and chain gap adjustment. Cable tension will settle after initial rides and should be rechecked. DUB bottom bracket selection depends on your frame standard and must be sourced separately.

Fit & Use Signals

  • Good fit for Boost-spaced mountain bikes (148mm rear)
  • Good fit if you want 12-speed range while keeping HG wheels
  • Good fit for trail and XC riders upgrading from 10/11-speed
  • Not a fit for non-Boost frames
  • Not a fit if your wheels use XD/XDR or Microspline
NX Eagle is what we install when someone wants Eagle range but doesn’t want to replace wheels. Big advantage: PG-1230 cassette fits HG hubs. That saves customers money compared to GX/X01 where XD is required. This is heavier than GX and shifts a little slower under load, but it’s durable and forgiving. For most trail riders, the performance difference is small. Common customer misunderstandings: They think bottom bracket is included (it’s not). They assume it fits non-Boost bikes (it doesn’t). They think any 12-speed chain works (Eagle chains matter). Install notes: Chain gap setup is important on NX. Use the gauge. Cable stretch after first few rides is normal — expect a follow-up adjustment. DUB BB must match frame (BSA, PF92, etc). Real-world durability: Derailleurs hold up well. Shifters are basic but reliable. PG-1230 cassette is heavier steel, lasts longer than GX aluminum clusters. Upgrade path we usually explain: GX derailleur later for crisper shifting Lighter cassette if rider wants weight savings Better chainring when stock wears This is not race-lightweight. It’s trail-proof. We recommend NX Eagle for riders who: Are upgrading older bikes Want wide range without wheel changes Ride hard but don’t chase grams Not ideal for: Weight-focused builds Riders wanting top-tier shifting feel It’s practical Eagle. That’s the appeal.
