Service / Ownership Context
Rear solid axles on fat BMX bikes commonly bend from hard landings, heavy riders, or peg use. Proper installation requires full hub disassembly and correct bearing preload setup. If unsure, this is a service-level repair.
Fit & Use Signals
- Good Fit: You have a Fat Ripper or Fat Quad with a 170mm rear hub and a bent 3/8" solid axle.
- Good Fit: You measured 235mm overall axle length on your existing axle.
- Not A Fit: Your bike uses a 14mm BMX axle.
- Not A Fit: Your bike uses thru-axle (12mm / 15mm) system.
- Not A Fit: Your rear hub spacing is 190mm or 197mm.
Most people don’t measure hub spacing and assume all fat axles are the same. They are not. Common failure: bent axle from jumps or riders over ~200 lbs landing flat. Peg use increases bending risk. If the axle bent once, check hub cones and bearings. Sometimes the cones are damaged too. Customers often forget to transfer spacers and hardware. This listing does NOT include nuts or washers. This is for solid axle hubs only. If someone has a thru-axle fat bike, this won’t work. Best for riders staying with stock 3/8” setup. If someone keeps bending axles, consider upgrading to a 14mm hub system if frame allows (many Fat Rippers do not without dropout modification). Installation requires full hub teardown and correct bearing preload. Overtightening kills bearings fast. Not for casual DIY unless they understand cup-and-cone hubs.
